4-H Garden Club

Frederick County 4-H Garden Program 2025

Work at the 4-H Garden began at the end of March with the planting of potatoes, a big hit with the kids as they love to dig them up! Two long rows were planted and they are thriving. Classes in the garden began April 15th. This year we have 17 4-H’ers in our group and 4 Master Gardeners to assist. The group has learned about soil and plant needs, composting, rotation, cultivation, plant support and pruning and weed suppression so far. The kids have planted lettuce, radishes, cabbage, tomatoes, beans, summer squash, watermelon, cantaloupe and cucumbers. There is a section of the garden that is full of beautiful flowers to attract pollinators and we add to that every year. Everyone is very excited to continue learning and to watch everything grow!

We are so grateful to the Fort Collier Battlefield Board of Directors for the use of their property.

Jr. Master Gardener Home School Program

by Lynn Hoffman

The Jr. MG Home School Program had a very successful 2022.  Twenty five students, with help from their families, raised over 1,500 pounds of food for Congregational Community Action Project.

The garden was planted in perfect rows with uniform-sized plants.  By the end of the year, the cucumbers, pumpkins, squash and tomatoes, were abundantly growing everywhere!

Many thanks to Ft. Collier Historic Site for the use of their grounds.  We received help from so many people in the community, the EMGs, and 4-H programs.  If you're interested in joining the Jr. MG Home School Program, contact Tammy Epperson at the Frederick County Extention Office or email: [email protected].
